  • Selected Herzberg stain for slide preparation
    • Interestingly this stain is also refered to in the litterature as:
      • Schultze's Solution
      • Chlor-zinc-iodide
      • Chlor-zinc-iodine
      • Chloro-zinc-iodide
      • Zinc chloro-iodide
      • Zinc chloro-iodine
  • Tested multiple staining procedues based on previously documented uses and trail and error
  • Determined effecting staining method
    • Initial results show all slide content more vividly and uniquely color a variety of different components (chitin, plant material, spores, diatoms)
    • photos below

Gut contents of Leptonema spp. stained with Herzberg's at 460x.
The largest objects shown are some plant material (bottom) & a Diatom (top right).

Capture from another slide stained with Herzberg's at 460x showing a different type of material from a different source.
Any guesses?
